About Perth Beaches
Cottesloe Beach: Located 15 minute drive from the Perth CBD. Cottesloe is one of Perth's best know beaches. Regular bus services run to Cottesloe or a 600 metre walk from the Cottesloe Train Station on the Perth to Fremantle line will have you standing on the sand. Cottesloe's famous Norfolk pines can be seen all the way from Rottnest Island. Grassy areas, public, changing facilities and showers are all available for public use. The beachfront boulevard is full of cafes and restaurants with panoramic views over the Indian Ocean. And being located on the West Coast the sunsets are spectacular. Fish and Chips at Cottesloe beach is a local favourite, as are the "Sunday Sessions" at the local pubs overlooking the beach. The beach is patrolled by Surf Life Savers during the summer months.
City Beach: Located 15 minutes drive from the Perth CBD. City Beach is best known for hosting National Surf Lifesaving carnivals. The area boasts beautifully landscaped recreational areas and modern facilities. Toilets, BBQ's, change rooms and showers are available for public use. There is also a children's playground. A popular swimming beach, City Beach is also a favorite fishing beach with the locals. The beach provides very safe swimming.
Floreat Beach: Located 12 kilometres west of the Perth CBD. Floreat Beach boasts long stretches of pristine white sand with clear waters and was a winner of the 'Best Beach Award' in 1997 and runner up in 1999. A grassy area, seating. toilets, changing facilities and showers are all available for public use. The beach is patrolled by Surf Life Savers during the summer months.
Scarborough Beach: Located 14 kilometres north west of the Perth CBD. Scarborough is a popular surf beach attracting thousands of people daily during the summer months. Numerous restaurants, cafes, pubs/clubs can be found within very close proximity to the beach, many with panoramic views of the Indian Ocean. Large grassy areas, picnic tables, toilets, showers and change rooms are all available for public use.
The beach is patrolled by Surf Life Savers during the summer months.
Trigg: Trigg Island is located 15 kilometres north west of the Perth CBD. Best known for its Powerful Surf, Trigg is also a magnificent nature reserve. Pied Cormorants and Silver Gulls roost in the limestone outcrops at Trigg Island and you may also see Crested Terns and Fairy Terns. Dolphins can also regularly be spotted frolicking in the waves. Toilets, changing facilities and a boat ramp are all available for public use.
Sorrento Beach: Located 20 kilometres north west of the Perth CBD, Sorrento Beach is a popular family beach. Grassed areas, shops, toilets, and change facilities are all accessible to the public
Mettams Pool: Located just 15 minute drive from the Perth CBD Mettams Pool can be found on a cycle track that connects Sorrento Beach and Trigg Island. An ideal family area, the reef is perfect for first time snorkellers and children. The sheltered pool is less than two metres deep.
The Basin: Located at Rottnest Island, north of the Thomson Bay Settlement, The Basin is one of the island's more popular beach areas with its clear turquoise water reflecting the white, sandy bottom. For those who dive or snorkel, this is one of the most accessible places on the Island. The surrounding reef is home or a diverse range of fish and coral species.
