About Harambe Restaurant

Harambe Restaurant, Footscray, presents an eclectic menu of spicy, authentic & zesty dishes, infused with aromatic flavours designed to intoxicate your senses.

Relax downstairs in the café with its western style cuisine or dine upstairs and step into a a re-creation of an Ethiopian Gojo. Upon entering the room you are greeted with a decorative colourful blend of woven tablecloths & traditional raffia tables. Sample the Ethiopian imported beers or embark on the famous customary coffee ceremony.

Harambe is the only true ETHIOPIAN restaurant in Melbourne. Upon entering the upstairs restaurant you are taken far away and could truly believe you are in Africa. The name is Swahili for ‘Working Together' which the experience truly reflects. A family owned and staffed business, offers a friendly, warm and inviting atmosphere, where they certainly ‘work together' to create an amazing experience.

The menu provides a diverse selection of vegetarian dishes and non vegetarian options. Deryshe Tessima the owner and chef at Harambe, has a long tradition of cooking in Ethiopia, in fact his family worked in the palace of Haille Sallasie as chefs. He brings with him the same traditional quality of cooking to Harambe.

The sumptuous Holiday Dish is a local favourite and is an aromatic chicken slowly cooked over many hours until the blend of herbs and spices is infused into the meat. This dish is usually only served in Ethiopia during their holiday period.

Experience a traditional Ethiopian eating style and use your fingers whilst sharing the dishes from one large plate. The vegetarian combination is 6 or more separate dishes in one serving or you can order the non-vegetarian combo, which is 5 or more different varieties. Yebeg Tjbs is tender diced lamb with a blend of Ethiopian herbs and spices including green chili and onion.

Harambe also import Dashen beer from Ethiopia, which has a clean fresh taste and a perfect accompaniment to the food. Harambe is also available for functions or parties and if you wish Dershye could complete the experience with traditional Eskista dancers and a buffet to make it a memorable event.
