Here they serve delicious Mexican meals nestled in a vibrant and colourful ambience, where you can savour an eclectic collection of zesty flavours. This family owned restaurant provides a home-like atmosphere and their passion for their culture and cuisine shows. Los Amates is renowned in the small Mexican community for its authenticity and is often packed. So bring all your amigos down but remember you must book in early.Los Amates, the name comes from the Mexican hand painted artwork using the bark of the Amates trees from Mexico. The restaurant has a number of these very special paintings on show in the restaurant. Arturo is a passionate Mexican, proud of his culture and food. He opened his restaurant because he was continually asked "where can we eat authentic Mexican food?" his answer, "at the home of any Mexican who lives here", hence the opening of Los Amates. His authentic cuisine is not influenced by any commercial products that have infiltrated Mexican food.Los Amates brings together the food from many of the regions of Mexico to provide a real eating experience. There is a wonderful array of Los Tacos such as Tacos de Res, lean beef strips cooked with chillies, pasilla and ancho.To experience the true array of flavours try one of the share plates of which there are a number; served with rice. The mains are comprehensive and we suggest the Pollo Con Salsa Roja, marinated chicken pieces lightly fried and then cooked in salsa and served with rice and frijoles. Additionally there are a number of vegetarian options to try.Los Amates have a wide range of Mexican beers to complement any dish you order. Arturo will personally guide you through his menu to enhance your appreciation of his authentic Mexican Cuisine.
