About Bhoj Indian Restaurant
With a prime waterfront location right in the heart of the New Quay promenade, in Docklands, Melbourne, Bhoj boasts magnificent uninterrupted views, (particularly by night). Add to this the expansive indoor and alfresco seating, rich aromas of herbs & spices and it quite simply makes for an exquisite dining experience. If you enjoy Indian fare, then you'll relish in the menu created by owner/chef Rajesh Mehta. There's an obvious commitment to freshness and quality. Be sure to try the Jhinga Mirchi Masala.
In keeping with its surrounds in Melbourne's newest dining precinct, Bhoj Docklands eschews the cloying décor of standard Indian eateries in favour of a light, spacious interior. Touches of the subcontinent are here of course, in feature walls of spicy orange and tandoori fuschia, and a collection of Indian antiques – but modern concrete and steel-grey finishes, and floor-to-ceiling windows that make the most of the waterside location, ensure the feel is all-out modern. This isn't a case of style over substance, however.
The menu shows all the flair that has earned owners Rajesh and Kavita Mehta numerous awards over the years, and it's easy to see why. An adventurous selection of starters ranges from several vegetarian dishes to a variety of kebabs including saffron and nawabi tikka – mild and full of fruity flavours. The mains menu offers up excellent versions of everyone's favourite curries, while anyone ordering the tandoori barramundi will be the envy of other diners when the whole charcoaled fish is presented on a huge platter – in a marinade that is sure to impress the tastebuds too.
Bhoj Docklands is the younger, more glamorous little sister of the popular Templestowe location, of the same name. with its chic, sleek good looks, waterside location and thoroughly modern attitude, Bhoj at Docklands wins the award for Melbourne's grooviest Indian restaurant.
It's chef and owner, Rajesh Mahta, has been in the business for 10 yours and enjoys opening the eyes and tastebuds of Melbournians to the real herbs, spices, tender meat and seafood of true Indian cuisine.
Bhoj offers a range of tandoori and curry selections, including a superb and unusual minced chicken tikka as a starter and a lovely fresh fish and prawn curry, alongside a range of meat and chicken dishes and large variety of naan breads.
Due to Bhoj's success in combining the perfect mix of delicious food, friendly service and a modern atmosphere, it is no stranger to accolades.
