About Maisie's Seafood & Steakhouse

Overlooking the breathtaking Noosa River, Maisie's Seafood and Steakhouse is a locally famed restaurant with a loyal following since it was built in 1920 and has a rich Australian history!

Maisie's is a multi award-winning abode and most notably has received the Tourism Noosa Award for Excellence - Best Steak Restaurant in the Sunshine Coast for the past 3 years and once you dine on their tender steaks you can see why!

Sit outside, unwind and enjoy the fresh breeze while dining on succulent seafood obtained directly from the local trawlers.

Maisies is housed in a charming weatherboard abode and boasts an eclectic array of sumptuous seafood variations like the Noosa River Cold Platter and the Gympie Terrace Seafood Combo; ‘True Blue' Australian classic menu names also feature including The Waltzing Matilda-the finest rib fillet, served with mushrooms, asparagus and a pepper sauce or Clancy's Overflow a superb eye fillet wrapped in bacon, accompanied by 3 oysters mornay and 3 kilpatrick on the shell.

Maisie's picturesque location is sure to make you appreciate how lucky we are in Australia with an epic riverside location on the majestic shores of Noosaville.

The History
Maisie's was built in 1920 by Pattermore and Cash for Jiddy Massoud. The Massoud family ran it as a café – the first in the district. Jiddy's daughter, Maisie, worked for her parent's café as a chef/cook and waited on the tables at ‘The Favourite' as the café was then known.

Jiddy Massoud continued to run the café through the Depression and World War 11, when it became a favourite eating place for the troops stationed in the area, especially the 2/14 Battalion. It was also the first drive-in café, as the troops would drive the amphibious Army Ducks out of the river and up to the café to collect their food, which was cooked on a small wood stove. Throughout this period the Massouds would cook from six to eight cases of fish a day, each case weighing 60lb and because the stove was fuelled by wood the café would fill up with smoke so the locals started to call the café ‘Smokey Joe's'.

War rationing didn't really affect the café's operation, because if they ran out of something the troops would get it for Jiddy. In return the Massoud family would entertain the troops by moving the Pianola out onto Gympie Terrace itself.

Maisie recalls that right throughout this time not so much as a teaspoon went missing and that "if people had money they would pay for their meals – if they didn't the food would be free. How times have changed!"

The current leases of the original café, Ziggy and Julie Fiegl, have honoured their landlady by naming the restaurant after Maisie. The staff and management welcome you to Maisie's and hope you enjoy our food and service as you absorb the history and ambience of Maisie's.

Seafood and Steak is their passion and generous serves are the order of the day.

Mine hosts have been in Noosaville for twenty years and have been the recipients of many local awards during this time, so come and find out why the restaurant is so popular.
