About Glass Artists' Gallery
The Glass Artists' Gallery was established in 1982 by Maureen Cahill, a seminal figure in the Australian Contemporary Glass Movement. The Glass Artists' Gallery is Australia's foremost contemporary glass gallery and is the collectors' choice for accessing exceptional works by emerging and established Australian Artists working in glass.
Situated only ten minutes from the CBD and walking distance from Darling Harbour, the Gallery is easily accessible from the city. As well as maintaining a wide range of work on display, the Gallery has a programme of changing exhibitions that focus on the diverse and unique uses of glass in contemporary arts practice. Of these exhibitions, two are held annually. ‘Launch' is a survey of graduating student's work from colleges around Australia that takes place at the beginning of each year. The second annual exhibition is ‘Encore', which shows more work by finalists of the previous year's Ranamok Glass Prize, the most significant initiative recognising excellence of Australian and New Zealand glass artists.
The Gallery has a resource centre for anyone wishing to commission artists. This resource provides information to designers and architects interested in using glass for architectural applications.
The Gallery has exhibited internationally since 1991 in major expositions such as SOFA in Chicago and New York, ‘Tresors' in Singapore, COLLECT at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, and ART TAIPEI 06. The success of these exhibitions is measured by the constant demand for Australian glass artists' work by major public and private collections both in Australia and overseas.
This year, we will also be exhibiting at Glass Lovers' Weekend '07 at Wheaton, New Jersey, USA. This is an invitational exhibition of only 20 US galleries. Glass Artists' Gallery has been invited to exhibit here as the only non-US gallery since 1997.
