When to Visit Outback NSW

In Outback New South Wales, the weather is dramatic and poetically beautiful however the temperatures can be surprisingly extreme; while winter days average 22°C, night-time temperatures can drop below freezing. In contrast, during the peak summer months from December to January, temperatures can soar to a very hot 40°C. The best time to visit is form April to October when the days are cooler.

Getting Around Outback NSW

Travel in NSW Outback means huge distances. Most of the popular attractions are reachable via roads however flying can be a time saving alternative. Regional airports are located at Broken Hill, Lightening Hill, Bourke, Cobar, & White Cliffs. If you drive the NSW Outback, you’ll be seeing the real Australian Outback and you’re sure to discover some of the last of the very great self-drive adventures. Proper care and maintenance of your vehicle in preparation for your Outback journey is of paramount importance. Some destinations may not offer fuel or medical services, so it is always wise to check with the local people before embarking. Try to avoid travelling at sunrise, sunset and after dark if possible; - during these times animals can be hard to see & unpredictable.
