Blue Mountains Restaurant, Accommodation & Travel Highlights

About Blue Mountains

Located less than two hour's drive from Sydney, the Blue Mountains offer a natural wonderland of untamed bush, spectacular rock formations & native wildlife. Vast views reach to the horizon, waterfalls plummet to the valleys below and there are numerous lookouts & other places where you can sit alone with nature. There are activities for all ages and fitness levels from high adventure abseiling & rock climbing, mountain biking or horse-riding, to a gentle stroll through the pristine scenery. Or if you prefer, you can simply wander through the numerous charming towns filled with shops, boutiques, art & antique galleries. Whether it's a luxurious hotel or resort, a charming guesthouse or a cottage, you'll find it here; and there is a great range of award wining restaurants, cafes & country pubs to match. All this and more is right on Sydney's doorstep. Highlights include the Three Sisters rock formations, the Jenolan Caves, and the World Heritage Listed rainforest of the Jamison valley.

When to Visit Blue Mountains

The Blue Mountains are at their scenic best during the spring and autumn periods.  That’s not to say that the option of a crackling open fire and a winter setting should be missed, (sometimes it even snows). However the wide range of outdoor activities and sight-seeing are best suited by the more temperate times of the year! Spring comes a little later to the upper mountains - don’t miss going on a wildflower walk around Wentworth Falls, Katoomba, Blackheath and Mount Wilson in October.

Getting Around Blue Mountains

The closest airports to the Blue Mountains are Sydney’s Domestic and International Airports. Most of the towns are serviced by the NSW rail network. Busses and taxis are available once you are there, but to truly experience all that the Blue Mountain has to offer the best way is with your own vehicle. The Great Western Highway winds its way through the mountains and the signage is excellent.
