The wishes and needs of our members are the guiding principles behind our approach. Designed as an essential navigational and rating accomplice, the Australian Good Food and Accommodation Guide has long been acknowledged as Australia's most comprehensive restaurant, accommodation and travel authority and encompasses not only all major metropolitan areas but many of the smaller townships that lie in between.
But for us it is not just about setting the standard, it's also about lifestyle; a world that has much to do with class, distinction and personal taste. The Australian Good Food and Accommodation Guide is your invaluable accomplice in the planning of the perfect trip away, or simply the perfect evening.
Our Background
Founded in 1977, two years of comprehensive research and compilation saw the release of Australia's first national restaurant, accommodation and travel guide in 1979. Originally inspired by the Michelin and Gault Millau guides of Europe, the earliest guides carried the title: 'Guide Bonvoyage' covering just Australia.
In response to market research studies the name was changed in 1984 to the title it bears today: 'The Australian Good Food & Travel Guide'. Pioneering principles and values that have repeatedly set the standard, the Australian Good Food and Accommodation Guide still stands today as Australia's most comprehensive and respected rating authority.

How do I get Listed?
Every year our inspectors conscientiously inspect thousands of establishments and other places of interest for inclusion in our publication. If you are the proprietor of an establishment or know of a restaurant, accommodation, place of interest, etc.. and can not find it on the Australian Good Food and Accommodation Guide website, please use our add listing form.

How are establishments rated?
Ratings are established according to a point system in accordance with standards that have been used in Europe for over a century. Inspectors are provided with detailed rating questionnaires and are given strict evaluation training. Establishments must meet minimum requirements and receive a point score equal to or above that of the corresponding rating. This system has been adopted to minimize bias and ensure that establishments are judged on equal terms throughout Australia. Ratings are subsequently cross referenced and verified by a conscientious administration team before being submitted for publishing on the website. Chef Hat awards (Toques) are rated in accordance with our reader reviews, and inspectors appraisals.
